Bethesda accidentally removed the banner on the official Redfall Twitter account due to a recent surge in copyright takedowns.
The long-awaited release of Redfall is here, but not without some leaks that had already made their way online before its launch.
To prevent leaks from spoiling the release, the game's publisher Bethesda was taking extra precautions. The company was closely monitoring the internet for any unauthorized images or footage of Redfall and issuing takedown and copyright strikes to prevent such content from spreading.
In fact, Bethesda's vigilance went a bit too far, as the studio recently mistakenly issued a copyright strike against itself – a few Redfall fans observed that the banner image on the game's official Twitter account was temporarily removed.
Twitter users such as GamePitt and PMS Jordan shared screenshots as proof, revealing that the banner image on Redfall's Twitter account was replaced with a grey rectangle. The image displayed a message indicating that it was taken down "in response to a report from the copyright holder."
User Weekend Warrior suggested that Bethesda was using an automated system to detect and report any Redfall-related content on Twitter, which resulted in this amusing situation. However, it remains unclear whether the copyright strikes were indeed issued by a bot.
The banner has eventually been restored, but the Redfall account has not commented on the incident.
Despite the excitement surrounding the game's release, Redfall's rating on Metacritic is not very impressive, with only 64 points out of 100 based on 28 reviews. This makes Redfall the lowest-rated game by Arkane Studios on the aggregator in the studio's nearly 25-year history.
