Bethesda Stays True to Itself with Skyrim Switch 2 Port's "Unplayable" Optimization
Just stay on Switch 1.
Bethesda promised us more shadowdrops, and it delivered with its sudden release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on Switch 2 (because no platform can stay without Skyrim, obviously).
However, players' joy didn't last long: to no one's surprise, the game has issues so severe that some fans find it "unplayable".
"Not only are the visuals only marginally better and the framerate still 30fps (what the actual fuck), but there's nearly a full second of delay after each input. I knew Bethesda were never great at optimisation, but this is just an absurdly poor effort. I'd honestly rather play the Switch 1 version, at least that one didn't feel so sluggish," shared one player.
"I dont understand how the game has been released with this input lag. Just started it up I played for 10 seconds and instantly noticed how bad it was. It really is unplayable for me," added another.
And that's the biggest frustration of them all: jokes about letting Skyrim die in peace are not really jokes anymore. To each their own, but how can Bethesda release the same game over and over again for 14 years and still not iron it out?
"So the Switch 2 upgrade for Skyrim just dropped and it is a disaster," complained a Reddit user. "First, if you have the physical game and AE DLC, you have to manually delete everything (and the game icon) then redownload the base game without the AE DLC to access the free upgrade from the main in-game menu.
"But once you're in game, the horror show begins. Input lag beyond playability. And I mean worse input lag than online Smash Bros here. There's like a whole second between me flicking the stick and my character moving its head. I won't even speak about the 30fps for a 2011 game in 2025 on a console capable of running Cyberpunk at 40fps. I'll just say that the frame pacing is not even stable. But the best part is my game crashing after less than 10 minutes.
"Pure Bethesda experience."

So at this point, it's best to just stick to Switch 1 if you have the game there.
