BioWare Is Closing Anthem Servers

You still have months to play.

BioWare

BioWare's Anthem is one of those failures we've seen too much of lately. The studio has been struggling with it for years and has finally given up, as EA decided to shut down its servers. But don't worry, you'll get to play it for half a year still.

"After careful consideration, we will be sunsetting Anthem on January 12, 2026. This means that the game will still be playable online for the next 180+ days. As of today, you can no longer purchase in-game premium currency, but you can still use your remaining balance until the servers go offline," a statement on EA's website says.

The game will be removed from EA Play on August 15, 2025, and players can still use the in-game currency they have, although it will not be possible to buy it, it seems.

EA was careful to point out that no BioWare developers were laid off as a result.

Anthem was released in 2019 to mixed reviews and promised to be revamped. However, it was decided to cancel its development in 2021, which is not that surprising considering the title was reportedly created in just 15 months.

In a world where there is Destiny 2, Battlefield, and Call of Duty, it looks like there is no place for another online shooter, so hopefully, BioWare will focus on what they do best instead.

Now, Anthem joins Concord in the landfill of shunned video games.
