Black Myth: Wukong Receives Ray Tracing Update from NVIDIA

"Black Myth: Wukong is one of the most immersive and technologically advanced titles released to date."

NVIDIA and Game Science, the developer of the long-awaited RPG Black Myth: Wukong, showcased gameplay footage video with full ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS 3.

Ray tracing is a technique that enhances the rendering of light and its effect on a scene. According to NVIDIA, in Black Myth: Wukong, this technique raises the quality of lighting, reflections, and shadows, including the smallest shadows from leaves and pebbles. As stated by the tech developer, full ray tracing is also known as path tracing and is used by visual effects artists to create film and TV graphics that are indistinguishable from reality. With the latest NVIDIA updates, its use in video games became possible. NVIDIA called Black Myth: Wukong "one of the most immersive and technologically advanced titles released to date."

The water surface looks mirror-like and reflects the surrounding area, including landscape elements and lights, with great detail.

The shadows with ray tracing look more complex, contrasted, and lifelike, which highly enhances immersion of the scene.

The game also supports DLSS 3, an NVIDIA's AI-based technology that improves graphics performance on GeForce RTX GPUs. The graph below shows the average FPS achieved using GeForce RTX with various resolutions, specifically 1080, 1440, and 2160.

Black Myth: Wukong, based on Journey to the West, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature, is scheduled for release on August 20, 2024. It is not the only game featuring this progressive technique. Previously, NVIDIA announced ray tracing updates for a range of other games, including Diablo 4, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, and Star Wars Outlaws.

    According to screenshots, more fire effects added and lights got completely different color. Strange that models are the same, usually when rtx is on there are absolutely different assets
