Blasphemous Dev Announced a Real-Time Tactical Stealth Game

The Game Kitchen's upcoming title challenges your capability of escaping from an 18th-century prison.

The Game Kitchen, the developer of the beloved action-platformer Blasphemous, just unveiled their upcoming real-time tactical stealth game, The Stone of Madness. The trailer brings us to a prison from an 18th-century Spanish Monastery, where the characters try to escape.

“Located in the Pyrenees, this time-worn Jesuit monastery is home to a madhouse and an inquisitorial prison. Five prisoners - plagued by cruel punishment, madness, and despair - pool their skills and resources to face their phobias, stave off insanity, uncover the mysteries of the Monastery, and find a way to escape.”

It does no good to the mental health to be trapped in such a desperate environment, and each of the five controllable characters has their own traumas and phobias that you should pay attention to — they will lose control and fall into “paranoia, dementia, or bouts of violence” that will result in a change in the way you control the character.

This tactic game makes you take day and night into consideration and plan for different actions and tasks accordingly. If you don’t want to stop exploring even after the curfew time, you’ll be faced with a higher level of security from the guards, although the rewards could be luring as well. So it’s up to you if you’d like to take higher risks for better rewards.

As the game is set in 18th-century Spain, the artists take inspiration from the art of Spanish romantic painter Francisco De Goya and bring the game to life through a hand-painted graphic style.

The game is set to be released early next year to PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch and offers two campaigns, each with its own story, goals, special characters, and surprises. If you’d like to design a prison break, feel free to check it out on Steam and follow the developer on Twitter to receive more game-related updates.
