Following the release of a long-awaited and the biggest update in a whole year, Blender 4.2, which introduced Eevee Next, Extensions, and exciting updates to Geometry Nodes, The Blender Foundation shipped Blender 4.2.2, fully focused on fixing 4.2.1's and 4.2's issues.
This is the second LTS release in the 4 series, which will be supported until July 2026, and it resolves 101 issues since version 4.2.1. This includes various bugs and crashes related to USD workflows, Eevee and Cycles, glTF exports, and much more, so it's highly recommended to update. For a complete and detailed list of changes, see the changelog here.
Blender's long-term support program, which aims to ensure that long-lasting projects can be executed using a stable version, has also introduced Blender LTS 3.6.16, the last release in the 3 series, which will be supported until June 2025. Blender LTS 3.6.16 tackles 4 issues from the previous release:
- atan2(0,0) evaluates to NaN on Metal but 0 on all other platforms;
- Build: Ambiguous call to isFinite for MSVC 17.11.;
- Blender 3.6.15 MetalRT – Hiding all objects in rendered viewport crashes;
- Blender adds Grease Pencil Objects to Scene when appending IDs with annotations (e.g., in their shader editor).
