On October 13, 2002, Blender's sources went public.
Yesterday, Blender Foundation celebrated the 20th anniversary of its renowned 3D software Blender going open-source and becoming available for free. On October 13, 2002, during the first Blender Conference, Blender was released to the world under the terms of the GNU GPL by the software's original creator Ton Roosendaal, and it continues to be free-to-use to this day. "Today, 20 years ago, Blender became open source. Bringing freedom to create for everyone, forever," commented the company.
In case you missed it, the company also recently released Blender 3.3 LTS, a long-term support version of the software that brought a new hair grooming system, new nodes for creating and adjusting UV maps, improvements to Grease Pencil, and tons of smaller upgrades and enhancements designed to improve Blender workflows and pipelines.
