Starting with the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, support for Android and other tablets will follow in the future.
This is huge and real: after much anticipation and unofficial ports, Blender is finally arriving on the go.
To support Blender's mission of making 3D technology accessible to everyone, the Blender Foundation has set a new goal to fully adopt platforms like tablets, which have increasingly become primary computing devices in recent years. Some of these include Apple iPad, Microsoft Surface, Huawei MatePad, and the Wacom MovinkPad, among others.
The iPad Pro with Apple Pencil will serve as the initial platform to test this concept, with Android devices and other tablets planned for future support. Here are some early mockups showing how the Blender interface and controls might look on the iPad:
Development will take place in a separate branch. Experienced developers interested in contributing are encouraged to connect through chat.blender.org or the DevTalk forums.
Also, a tech demo showcasing Blender running on the iPad Pro will be featured at the Blender booth during SIGGRAPH 2025 in Vancouver.
Soon after, a workshop will take place at Blender HQ in Amsterdam to review the current design and workflows. The results of this workshop will be shared on Blender's development channels. Additionally, live demos are expected during Blender Conference 2025.
