Blender Landscape Generator With Dynamic Rivers
See the progress on delodan2312's project.
Blender Artist, known on Reddit as delodan2312, is working on a full-scale landscape generator, focusing on river systems that shape the terrain. Generating rivers is challenging with Voronoi or standard texture methods because they are non-cyclic and fractal, so they developed a branching approach.
"I found a simple way to visually connect two points in a shader. Using some tricks with local coordinates per endpoint, I was able to simplify the branching and add multiple branches with one node and without having to store each endpoint separately. With the addition of some noise and the distance value to the generated river, something that is generated automatically with this method, I surprisingly easily managed to generate a convincing terrain using mesh displacement," commented the artist.
