The long-awaited Project Gold is finally live.
If you're a dedicated Blender user, you've likely been following the progress of Project Gold, Blender's 16th Open Movie, which was first announced back in 2023. This week, the Blender Studio team revealed that the showcase is now ready for public release, alongside some project files.
Originally begun as a short film directed by Jericca Cleland, Project Gold's production was later refocused to a showcase for the new tools and technologies developed to achieve the distinctive painterly look that makes the film so unique. Jericca is still working on the short, aiming to take advantage of now more advanced production tools and bring it to completion.
The Brushstroke Tools, a Geometry Nodes-based toolset useful for creating a variety of stylized looks in asset production, was specifically developed for Project Gold. Available as an add-on, these tools provide a convenient interface for creating, managing, and editing layers of 3D brushstrokes generated procedurally.
Get the Brushstroke Tools add-on on the Blender Extensions platform and join Simon Thommes's workshop on using them, which includes all characters, environments, and other production files.
Also, please note that the Blender 4.3 release has been rescheduled to November 19th, giving developers an extra week for refinement and offering users a chance to spot any remaining issues. Try out the Blender 4.3 Beta and report any bugs you encounter.
