The Blender Foundation has announced that future software versions will come pre-configured with Online Essentials, a remote library of CC0 assets, including resources like base meshes, materials, and brushes.

Following the implementation of the Extensions framework, The Blender Foundation has announced that Blender will ship with a remote asset library called Online Essentials, containing a selection of CC0 assets. These assets include crucial resources like base meshes, materials, and brushes, which are readily available to all users to enhance the software's out-of-the-box experience.
A new type of Asset Library will be supported to integrate the asset system with the internet: Remote Asset Library. This will work similarly to the existing local Asset Library system but with a few differences:
- The library content can be downloaded on-demand and cached locally for reusability
- Each file must be self-contained (no linking between files is supported)
Both Extensions and Asset Libraries are crucial for expanding Blender's capabilities, and in a sense, asset libraries can be considered a type of extension. Although they share to the same internet access policy and will be accessible through the Blender Extensions Platform, they will be configured separately. Moreover, assets are strictly curated, while the other extensions are typically community-organized projects.
The Blender Foundation's proposal includes other changes: support for multiple variants and representations, such as different LODs and resolutions within a single asset, advanced search, and more.
