Blizzard Will Stop Selling Overwatch Loot Boxes on August 30

Players will still be able to earn standard loot boxes through gameplay prior to the arrival of Overwatch 2.

As Blizzard plans to send off the original Overwatch replacing it on October 4 with Overwatch 2, the company announced the launch of the third and final Anniversary Remix which began on August 9 and will be live until August 30.

Anniversary Remix: Vol 3 brings back the game's past seasonal event brawls and introduces new cosmetics including remixed skins for characters like Tagged Tracer, Varsity D.Va, and Genjiman Genji.

Throughout the event, players will be able to purchase anniversary loot boxes and have a chance to get items from past Anniversary and seasonal events. The anniversary loot boxes will be available only until the last day of the event, August 30. After the event ends, standard loot boxes can still be earned through gameplay prior to the arrival of Overwatch 2.

Overwatch 2 launches in Early Access on October 4 and the sequel will entirely ditch the loot box system. The shooter will focus on the live-service model and seasonal content plan and will feature the battle pass and the in-game store through which players will be able to unlock new cosmetic items.

The loot boxes from the original game won't be transitioning to the sequel, however, they will automatically open and their content will be transferred over to players' accounts in the new game.
