Borderlands 4 Might Have a Seamless Open World

Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox, hinted that the new co-op looter shooter Borderlands 4 might have a seamless world, in contrast to the previous Borderlands games.

In recent Twitter comments, Pitchford responded to the post about seamless loading in Borderlands 2, saying, "Seamless, you say?" And then added, answering to the next comment about Borderlands 4: "I will absolutely elaborate":

These comments suggest that Borderlands 4 might have an entirely new structure – a seamless open world with a single map instead of a few levels requiring separate loading in and out. This would be a major change to the series, as the previous games featured several separate maps. "Seamless" might also refer to removing save and quit boss farming, as now players need to reload the game each time before a new fight.

Borderlands 4 will be released in 2025. Before, at PAX West in Seattle, the developers said, "We're making the best Borderlands game to date," and showcased some concept art for the game.
