Both First- and Third-Person Views Will Be Considered in Future Resident Evil Games

Resident Evil Village Director doesn't think one camera option is better than the other.

Resident Evil Village is the second game in the series to use the first-person perspective, and the change makes the experience scarier but harder to play, according to the game's director Kento Kinoshita, so in future installments, Capcom will consider both first- and third-person views.

During Tokyo Game Show 2022, he told Dengeki that some players don't like not seeing their character and have trouble telling where enemies are, that's why the third-person view will be added to the Winters' Expansion.

So while the first-person view might make the game more thrilling and immersive, Kinoshita said the company will consider both options, although it could be difficult to provide both at the same time. He doesn't think any of the two camera options is better, each brings different experiences to the game.

Along with the third-person mode, Resident Evil Village Winters' Expansion will offer Mercenaries Additional Orders and the Shadows of Rose story on October 28th.

Mercenaries Additional Orders

The arcade-like action shooting experience returns with additional stages and new playable characters such as a fully prepared Chris Redfield, Karl Heisenberg, who wields a giant hammer and possesses the ability to control magnetic forces, and Alcina Dimitrescu who is over nine feet tall.

Shadows of Rose

Players saw Rose as a baby in the main story of Resident Evil Village. This DLC will show her story of survival 16 years after the original campaign.

Rosemary Winters, Ethan’s beloved daughter, has grown up and is now struggling with terrifying powers. In search of a way to break free from her curse, Rose enters the consciousness of the Megamycete. Rose’s journey takes her to a mysterious realm where memories of the past return to create a warped and twisted world of nightmares.

Resident Evil has switched its camera angles before: Resident Evil 4 placed the camera behind Leon's shoulder – a decision praised by many, first by Masahiro Sakurai, Smash Bros. and Kirby director.
