A while back, we shared a fantastic animation inspired by the final season of Game of Thrones. This piece was the result of a collaboration between several talented artists, featuring the iconic scene of Drogon melting the Iron Throne.
Emanuele Meloni, who was responsible for rigging the dragon modeled and textured by Lorenzo Amendola, provided a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the technical artistry behind it, giving you a chance to appreciate the effort that went into bringing Drogon to life. Matteo Arabella sculpted corrective blend shapes, significantly improving the deformation quality, while Rohan Jaiswar worked on the animation. Martina Cappellanti took care of the FX, and Stefano Colpaprete was responsible for compositing.
As Emanuele shared, the rig was created using mGear and is fully rebuildable, thanks to guide templates and custom post-steps written in Python.
