Resident Evil Village, Tears of Avia, and The Bunker are only a few of the writer's works after 30 years in the video game industry.
Steve Ince published a video on Twitter revealing that he will step away from the Broken Sword series and video games in general in February 2024. "I have been giving this a lot of thought over the last few months and have decided that I will retire from working on video games from that point on," said Ince in his announcement.
His first video game writing was Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror, which was released in 1997. Since then, Steve Ince has been writing Broken Sword games for nearly 30 years. Now he believes it is a perfect moment to leave the video game industry and move to writing books. "I find I'm increasingly drawn to writing books, particularly children's books, and hope that those who wish to support my work in the future will read my stories," shared Ince.
Together with the video, the writer published his retirement announcement on Game Press, where he also expressed his concern about AI technology. He wrote that he fears it may undermine the careers of many writers both in the game industry and beyond.
Recently, another prominent game writer, David Gaider, who worked on Dragon Age, shared the same opinion and revealed that attempts to bring AI-generated dialogues to games would fail.
