Build A Rocket Boy Had Been Hiring For Blockchain Positions

Leslie Benzies's Build A Rocket Boy studio claims that it was hiring blockchain developers for "research positions" saying that EVERYWHERE will not use blockchain technologies.

During this year's Gamescom Opening Night Live, Build A Rocket Boy, the studio led by one of the creators of Red Dead Redemption and GTA Leslie Benzies, presented EVERYWHERE – the upcoming open-world video game will feature a variety of possible actions, including driving cars, shooting, exploring various stylized game worlds, and more.

The studio didn't reveal a lot about the game and even didn't say what genre it is going to be, however, the game already raised some controversy with some people suggesting that the game will include some blockchain elements.

Following the game's announcement, various people on social media drew attention to the fact that Build A Rocket Boy had been recruiting blockchain developers.

While currently, there are no mentions of such positions on the studio's website, according to an Internet Archive capture of the site's careers page, the studio indeed was searching for various blockchain specialists including a blockchain senior backend programmer, a blockchain smart contract developer, and a blockchain test engineer.

"Blockchain" was also listed as a separate category alongside "Animation", "Art", "Audio", "Code", and "Design".

Leslie Benzies's studio, however, quickly addressed the allegations that EVERYWHERE is set to use the blockchain technology saying that it's building the game "on Unreal Engine 5, not the blockchain."

While Unreal Engine 5 is a game engine and blockchain is not and the fact that the game is powered by UE5 doesn't deny the opportunity of using blockchain, Build A Rocket Boy claims that the job openings were only for some research positions.

"We’re seeing some conversation on NFTs/Cryptos that are prompted by some of our open positions on our website. These are research positions, as we do not like dismissing new technologies only because others haven’t found a solution for them yet," the studio's Reddit post reads. "We are creating a new world for players, where we come together to play, watch, create, share, and so much more!"
