This research was conducted to understand the utilization of direct-to-consumer (D2C) strategies among game developers operating within the EU market. A total of 115 respondents were surveyed, all of whom passed the screening criteria of being actively involved in game development in the EU.
D2C acceptance
23% of respondents have implemented a D2C strategy in their games, 12% are in the process of setting one up, and 63% currently do not have a D2C strategy.
D2C challenges
- 75% of respondents identified customer acquisition as the top challenge.
- 44% reported payment processing as a significant issue.
25% cited legal regulations as a challenge. - 19% faced difficulties with developing the app or tool itself.
Global expansion
70% of respondents said their company is likely to expand its D2C plan. Among them, 43.8% plan to expand beyond Europe, while 31.2% are specifically considering North America and Europe. Another 25% are looking toward the Middle East and North Africa for growth.
