Call of Duty 2023 Will Reportedly Be a Standalone Game

According to insider Tom Henderson's sources, this year's Call of Duty will be a full-fledged game "heavily connected to the Modern Warfare series."

There's been much debate lately regarding Activision's next entry in the Call of Duty franchise, with people arguing whether it will be a standalone game or a DLC.

Previously, in its financial report, Activision stated that it planned "the next full premium release" in 2023 which made some people believe that 2023 Call of Duty will be a full-fledged game. However, according to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, this year's Call of Duty is set to be a Modern Warfare II "premium" expansion which, as Schreier stated, is "supposed to have lots of content" and likely this is why the publisher called it a "full" release.

However, as recent rumors suggest, the next Call of Duty game that will be released in 2023 will still be a full standalone game.

According to Tom Henderson's report, Call of Duty 2023 title indeed was planned as a "premium DLC" at some point, however, the project has changed its direction and is now set to be a standalone release. Henderson corroborated Schreier's information that the game is in development at Sledgehammer Games but noted that the title is also a massive collaborative effort among all Call of Duty studios at Activision.

The insider claims that although little is known about the project yet, it is believed that it will be "heavily connected to the Modern Warfare series." He, however, couldn't confirm that the game will be called Modern Warfare III as, according to him, the game's name is not yet decided.

Henderson didn't provide information on the title's reveal date but noted that the game is set to have two beta weeks (running from October 6, 2023 to October 10, 2023 and from October 12, 2023 to October 16, 2023), an early access period (starting November 2, 2023), and a full marketing strategy in line with previous premium releases.

Additionally, he said that the next entry in the Call of Duty series will still be available on previous-generation consoles and that the full release will take place on November 10, 2023.
