Captain America's Shield Recreated in Unity

We'd love to see this mechanic used in games.

Developer David Sanhueza recreated Captain America's shield and even made it bounce off walls. The developer noted he did not use Unity's physics engine to move the shield but rather set up all the mechanics through code (physics is enabled for the ragdoll state though). The shield supports 5 different states: InHands, Flying, Returning, Ragdoll, and Stuck.

"InHands state checks for input to release the shield. If you press Mouse0 it will launch it and bounce once, if you hold it for longer then the max bounces will increase," wrote Sanhueza. "Flying state makes it bounce on the walls and also if you press Mouse0 the next time it bounces it will return to the player, if you do not press it then once it reaches its last bounce the Ragdoll state will be activated."

There's also the Returning state which is similar to the Flying state but without bounces, plus the Ragdoll state – the player can pick up the shield within a certain range. When in the Stuck state, the shield can also be restored within a certain range.
