CCP Games Has "No Plans" to Implement NFT in EVE Online For Now

CCP Games has shared that it doesn't have plans to utilize blockchain technology, NFTs, or cryptocurrency in its multiplayer RPG EVE Online any time soon. In a recent blog post, the head of CCP Games, Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, said that the company sees the "untapped potential" of such technologies, although it is not ready to implement them in the game.

"We have no plans to add blockchain technology into EVE Online’s global server Tranquility for the foreseeable future," said Pétursson. "For the coming years, development for Tranquility will focus on building exciting new opportunities on top of the robust foundation that has been laid over the past two decades."

Currently, many developers of the studio are actively following the development of cryptocurrency and blockchain. However, at this stage in the development of technology, CCP Games believes that it is too early to implement them in large-scale games like EVE Online. Although Pétursson noted that the team will continue to explore the possibility of NFTs outside of Tranquility.

Elsewhere in a blog post, Pétursson reminded the fans that the Fanfest event will be held in the city of Reykjavik in early May. Guests will be able to attend presentations, round tables with developers, a charity dinner, and participate in anonymous auctions.
