CD PROJEKT RED Revealed Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Details & Gameplay

And disclosed when the big update is coming.

CD PROJEKT RED is very excited for the Cyberpunk 2077 players to experience the huge Update 2.0 that basically overhauls the game as well as the long-awaited Phantom Liberty DLC. To show fans what they can expect, the studio held a live stream where it talked about the Phantom Liberty story and demonstrated the new Relic skill tree, the Dogtown area, and other features.

You get to the Phantom Liberty questline after finishing the quest with Brigitte and the Voodoo Boys. There is also an option to skip to the DLC from the character creation screen. If you've finished the game already, you'll need to load it before the point of no return, and you'll get a call from Songbird – a netrunner for the NUSA who is traveling with the President.

She contacts you through the Relic and says she knows about your issue and can solve it if you help her first. She then shows you the new Relic skill tree, which can upgrade you with new abilities.

To get these new abilities, you need to find Militech data terminals in Dogtown, the new, dangerous area of Night City. They are not marked, so you'll have to explore to get them.

In addition to the Relic tree, CDPR changed the usual perks. The team felt there were not enough Terminator-like abilities, so they added some for you to be more involved in melee fights and crush enemies. Other branches of the tree are now more defined and cater to specific playstyles.

Cyberware boosts you no less than perks, and it has also been modified. You can now see Cyberware Capacity which controls "the amount of Cyberware your body can handle." The limit increases with every level, shard, and some perks.

These improvements will be available for everyone, except for the Relic tree as you need to get into Dogtown to find terminals, which is only accessible for the DLC owners.

Speaking of Dogtown, CDPR shared a couple of lines about it, too. It used to be a fantastic vacation spot but is now a very dangerous place where all kinds of illegal activities happen. It is under the control of Kurt Hansen, the leader of the Barghest gang.

The developers talked briefly about the new characters you'll see in the DLC, including President Rosalind Myers and Solomon Reed, but it was hard to do so without spoiling anything, so I'd say it's best to check them out in action in the game.

The stream also showed the revamped police system. The forces first take a look at what's happening and then invite more backup the more Heat you accumulate. They will try to stop you in many ways and will eventually bring MaxTac.

The creators tried to make the world feel more alive, so you might find more random conflict on the streets. Basically, it should look like GTA if everything goes well.

You will also experience some crazy vehicle combat and even Quickhack cars. Some of them have weapons mounted (DLC-only), so it should be fun mayhem.

Finally, CDPR revealed when Update 2.0 is coming, and you'll be happy to know that it's going to be here a bit earlier than Phantom Liberty, which is arriving on September 26, but only for current-generation consoles and PC. The DLC provides more depth to the story but doesn't change it fundamentally, so those not willing to buy it will not miss something integral.
