Character Artist Offers a Closer Look at Concord's Character Models

Something positive about Concord – yes, I'm just as surprised as you are.

Although Firewalk Studios' Concord has gone down in history as perhaps the worst AAA title to ever launch, even the most detested projects have something positive about them, with a recent behind-the-scenes showcase shared by Senior Character Artist Duc (Phil) Nguyen being one such unexpected exception.

Having worked as a freelancer at Goodbye Kansas Studios in 2023, Duc had the opportunity to work on Concord's cinematic trailer and contributed to the development of three of its characters: Starchild, Lennox, and One Off, a.k.a. the blue guy, the green guy, and the robot, as I doubt many actually know their names.

In his showcase, Duc gave a closer look at the characters' models, highlighting which parts of the workflow he was responsible for and noting that the models were created using Maya, ZBrush, Houdini, Substance 3D Painter, and V-Ray. Concord's reputation notwithstanding, the artist says he genuinely enjoyed working on the project, as the character models presented interesting challenges with their materials and treatments.

Below are some of the materials shared by the author, you can check out the full showcase by visiting Duc's ArtStation page:
