The author had to set up the sequence to learn the film's art style.
Ravi Kamble Govind, a seasoned 3D Animator, Storyboard Artist, and Co-Creator of Vision for Blender, has recently offered a glimpse into the working processes of major animation studios, demonstrating a short 3D test animation he set up upon joining the DreamWorks team.
Featuring several characters from the studio's 2022 animated movie The Bad Guys, the sequence was produced as part of "Heist Week", a mandatory training for animators aiming to join TBG's production crew. According to the creator, the purpose of this training was to help animators understand and learn the film's unique art style. While Ravi did not explicitly confirm the tools used, his Instagram post hints that the animation was brought to life using Blender and its Grease Pencil tool. You can learn more and check out Ravi's earlier works by visiting the artist's Twitter and Instagram pages.
Last week, Senior Animator at Riot Games Alex Ferreira also showcased Miaara, an awesome new stylized character rig in the style of The Bad Guys. Created in collaboration with Artem Dubina, the rig was set up in Maya and is available exclusively for Animation Flow students.
