Derek Jones shared his contributions.
Concord was one of the hardest flops in gaming history, and its character design was criticized a lot. However, there were many talented artists who made the game beautiful in some aspects, like concept designer Derek Jones, who has shared early illustrations that inspired Concord's developers.
Jones showed his art created in 2018, when the team was "still leaning heavily into the stylized retro sci-fi influence."
"For this work I would usually get a single sentence or even just a couple words from the narrative team to use as a starting point, then take a shot in the dark at what some of these new worlds could look like. These were meant to serve as inspirational raw material for worldbuilding and vibe, rather than anything to do directly with gameplay."
Jones enjoyed the experience and the freedom he was given, "constantly hitting the reset button and trying something new with each image," although not all of them were successful.
His works are presented on ArtStation, featuring Concord environments and unrelated art.
