Game Developer Zolden continues his work on Simulario.
In case you missed this, Game Developer Zolden, whose GPU-based real-time simulations we've featured multiple times on 80 Level, is currently working on Simulario, an experimental game built around 2D simulated physics. What sets it apart is that every pixel, object, and particle in the game functions as an individually simulated physical entity.
The video above showcases a collection of gameplay concepts that Zolden has developed so far, all running entirely on the GPU. Rendering is handled through custom shaders that draw meshes directly from buffers written by the compute shader, with no data transferred to the CPU. This approach allows the game to handle massive amounts of on-screen activity with just a few draw calls.
In addition to experimenting with different gameplay mechanics, Zolden also created a variety of quirky, visually amusing simulations using the engine:
Simulario's release date is still unknown, but you can wishlist it to stay updated and make sure you don't miss it. Also, stay tuned for more by following Zolden on X/Twitter.
