Check Out This Hand-Drawn Dungeon Crawler Inspired by Classic 80s Games

The Secret of Weepstone features an engaging story and stylish graphics reminiscent of fairytale illustrations or comic books.

Check out The Secret of Weepstone, developed by Talesworth Game Studio, a black-and-white dungeon-crawling RPG inspired by retro role-playing games.

The developer unveiled this short demo showcasing the game's creative UI, crafted as a fantasy book, with a stylish classic blue and white art style for the automap.

In the game, inspired by the classic titles of the 80s, such as Roll Dice, Fight Monsters, and Loot Dungeons, you need to uncover the mystery behind the illness of Byron, the Lord of Weepstone Keep. Once a prosperous settlement, its lands now lie barren and its people live in despair.

The RPG features a signature artistic style, with hand-drawn monochrome graphics. The developer shared that while there are a few splashes of color, adding them is always an "arduous" decision. The red blood splat on the portrait, the colored module cover and map, and the lightly tinted character sheet, giving it a paper-like look, are among the rare uses of color in the project.

The Secret of Weepstone is scheduled for 2026.
