We're far away from the times when using futuristic katanas would be okay, but we can enjoy the look of them thanks to talented people like 泡の海, known as awanoumi2 on X/Twitter, who creates mind-blowing weapons that might not be practical in a fight, but they certainly look awesome.
Their latest showcase is a katana that could be featured in Cyberpunk 2077, with an orange blade and a complicated-looking sheath that has a special attachment for balance.
"My sword is a sci-fi katana, so... it doesn't have traditional fittings. Even if people get mad at me saying 'Japanese swords aren't supposed to be like that, you're doing it wrong'... well, you know... I mean, mine is mounted with Picatinny rail standard attachments for firearms and a proprietary slide mechanism, so the concept and specifications don't match up with traditional ones at all," the creator said (machine-translated).
This is a true work of art, with the 75-cm blade made of reinforced plastic.
