Check out This Spyro-Inspired Open World Survival Game with Time Travel Concept

A project made with Unreal Engine 5 by solo developer Justin Darlington.

The Vision

The open-world survival game genre is not new to us, with many beloved titles like Minecraft, DayZ, The Long Dark, and more. The game we're discussing today belongs to this genre but combines the concepts of time travel and traversing dimensions.

"The Vision is an innovative open-world survival game that invites players into a dynamic and seemingly boundless experience. Seamlessly blending the concepts of time travel and traversing dimensions, The Vision offers an extraordinary gameplay experience that can be described as an 'open dimensional game.' As players navigate through different periods of time on Earth and other planets, they must gather resources, information, and technology to ensure their survival.”

The Vision

According to the creator Justin Darlington, he created this game because of his “obsession with time travel." The Vision tells the tale of John, a somewhat solitary subject of an alien experiment, who receives a watch encoded to his DNA, granting him the power to traverse time.

The Vision

The Vision combines a time-travel mechanic that lets players explore different eras and impact history, with a strategic sandbox mode where they can shape their own world. This mode offers players endless possibilities for creativity and strategic decision-making, from building bases, establishing businesses, to creating unique structures.

Here is a gameplay trailer from four years ago, which gives us some insights into the combat and environment. The gameplay part starts around the 3 minutes 40 seconds mark:

Let's follow the developer's footage shared on social media to further explore the game:

The game development started 7 years ago, initially in Unreal Engine 4 and now transitioning to Unreal Engine 5. Its release date and platform are still unknown, and we'll keep following up until there is more info. Feel free to follow the developer on Twitter if you'd like to learn more about the game.
