The game faces accusations that it stole Ark: Survival Evolved's source code.
A recently released Chinese strategy game Myth of Empires has been removed from Steam due to accusations of stealing source code. The game, whose code has been allegedly stolen is Ark: Survival Evolved, developed by Studio Wildcard and published by Snail Games.
According to PC Gamer's report, Wildcard and Snail Games claim that Angela Game, the studio behind Myth of Empires, “was founded in 2020 by at least one former employee of Snail Games China, Studio Wildcard’s parent company, who had access to the Ark: Survival Evolved's source code.”
What's more, when Myth of Empires was released in November 2021, Studio Wildcard noticed uncanny "similarities between the two games, including identical gameplay mechanics, which it felt went beyond the possibility of coincidence."
Yesterday, Angela Game issued a statement, regarding the source of the takedown request. According to said statement, the studio is "unable to disclose more details," adding that they are "frustrated with this situation as well." Previously, they had denied all the accusations, saying that "Angela Game fully owns all rights and property associated with Myth of Empires and will actively respond to any doubts or allegations on this point."
