Ciri Will Be Faster & More Agile in The Witcher 4

The game's executive producer shares a bit more about the upcoming title.

The 6-minute announcement trailer for The Witcher IV, the next game in the Witcher franchise, that CD Projekt Red shared during this year's The Game Awards answers a question that fans had regarding the upcoming new game - it confirms Ciri as the protagonist.

However, it doesn't end the discussions surrounding this title, as there are questions and thoughts around Ciri, and fans are curious about the canon finale of Wild Hunt - the game offers 36 different endings based on the choices players make. The game's executive producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, has joined GamesRadar+ in an interview to offer some further insights.

It's believed by some that the canon ending is that Ciri becomes a witcher, yet the developer didn't specify one as expected but said all of them "are important." Mitręga left a mystery here by saying something happened to her between the ending of the last game and the new title, which would affect Ciri's power:

"The gap between her being totally overpowered at the end of the previous game and now. With the skill set we showed off in the trailer… something totally happened in between. We had to delve deep to consider how we would address this - we have huge respect for the lore, for both the books and for what made it into our previous games."

Obviously, developers at CDPR have a lot of questions to answer regarding the new game, probably not less than for the players, and those questions matter for the whole narratives, which are based on the book series of the same name. Mitręga says, "This was one of the first questions we found the answer for, and it's how we were able to create this original story, which starts with The Witcher 4." Speaking of Ciri's skill set, Mitręga adds, "She's faster, more agile, but you can still tell that she was raised by Geralt."

Having Ciri as the protagonist is what Doug Cockle, a renowned Voice Actor and the English voice of CD Projekt's Geralt of Rivia, had speculated. He also got excited about this idea because it would be particularly thrilling considering her ability to travel between dimensions described in the original books.
