Clone of Pokémon Clone Changed Name to "Better Align With Our Brand Identity and Lore"

Nintendo's lawyers will have a field day with this one.

PocketGame

Pocketpair's Palworld was criticized for being a Pokémon clone, but it still got wildly popular and, apparently, inspired developers like PocketGame (yes, that's right) to create their own copycats.

Pickmon looks more like a clone of Palworld than Pokémon, which is ironic. I guess making the game's name so similar to Pokémon was a step too far, and the creators renamed it to Pickmos.

PocketGame

"Since the beginning of development, we have been dedicated to building a unique and profound ecological world. To better align with our brand identity and lore, our title is officially changing."

The "mos" represents "a complete ecosystem, a grand cosmos, " according to the developers. "This name carries a more powerful presence, acting as a better vessel for the fantasy adventure we are building for you. But we cute creatures are still collectively known as Pickmon!"

Aside from blatant copying of Pokémon and Palworld, Pickmos also shows a character that looks a lot like The Legend of Zelda's Link. Perhaps PocketGame just decided to take bits and pieces of well-known franchises, although it's hard to see the point when Pocketpair is now fighting against Nintendo and The Pokémon Company in court.

Popular games are not the only ones the studio is willing to "borrow": the green creature on the game's art might remind you of a fan redesign of Mega Meganium found on the Fakemon subreddit. However, PocketGame doesn't see the issue as long as there's no trademark:

"Could you please ask Mr. Fakemon to provide proof of the trademark rights for the designs in question? Our designs are handled by a professional team that manages all trademark filings. Our team has searched the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) database and found no record of Mr. Fakemon's company holding trademarks for the creatures shown in your images."

Pickmos honestly looks like an April Fools' Day joke, but it appeared on Steam too early for that. In any case, I doubt we will actually see the game's release, not with Nintendo dead set on eliminating its rivals.
