Companions in Avowed Won't Ditch You Since There's No "Approval System"

However, the decisions you make will influence the story of your companion.

In a recent interview, Obsidian, the developer behind the upcoming first-person fantasy RPG Avowed, shared that the game will feature a focus on combat, so players shouldn't expect "a pure pacific run." While you still can solve the situation without swinging your punches around, you should know that the game isn't developed in a Gandhi style.

During the same discussion with PC Gamer, Obsidian shared that there will be no "companion approval system" in the game, meaning that they won't ditch you just because of the wrong decision you made.

However, as the developer says, the decisions we make will have an impact on the history of the characters.

"We didn't go with a strict approval system. We didn't want players feeling like they had to choose the 'right' options in order to maintain their companions," said Carrie Patel, Avowed's Game Director. "So it's not about maintaining their approval, it's about getting to know them, building relationships with them, and you know, finding points of commonality and strength where they're learning things from you as the player character, and you're getting a little bit of their perspective on the world."

Taking a character on an expedition will only be necessary on occasion, especially when their specialization or knowledge is crucial for task completion. Players can bring a maximum of two companions for these expeditions.

While the game does provide the option to issue basic commands to companions, micromanaging the team won't be necessary.
