Iron Meat's creator showcased the creature that defined the style of the upcoming game.
In case you missed it, back in March, we highlighted Iron Meat, an upcoming Contra-style 2D side-scrolling shooter with old-school, pixelated visuals, being developed by Ivan Suvarov and the Retroware team.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by The Meat, an all-consuming interdimensional biomass, Iron Meat blends classic arcade and console mechanics, tasking players to battle hordes of mutated victims and machines, dodge relentless bullet barrages, and engage in intense multi-phase boss fights. The game also promises a two-player couch co-op mode and offers 30 unlockable skins with interchangeable parts for greater customization.
What sets Iron Meat apart from many other run-and-gun shooters is literally in the game's name – the combination of mechanical and flesh-and-blood enemies blended together in one gloriously violent experience. According to the game's creator's recent tweet, however, it hasn't always been this way, and at one point, all the opponents were either robots or humans.
As shown in Ivan's new demo, the first "meat" monster in the game was a gigantic scorpio-truck, boasting sharp teeth, spikes, and enormous legs growing on top of the mechanical hull. According to the developer, this breathtaking monstrosity eventually went on to define the whole style of the game, which is evident from the game's screenshots and trailers.
