Grandmatriarchs are appeased.
After its successful expansion to Steam back in 2021, Cookie Clicker – one of the most popular browser games and arguably the most iconic title in the clicker genre – is now seeking new land to build Alchemy Labs and Cortex Bakers on, apparently coming to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch later this month.
Although no official statement regarding Cookie Clicker's debut on PS and Switch has been made by the game's creator, Julien Thiennot, more commonly known as Orteil, listings for the game have been spotted on PlayStation Store and Nintendo Store, indicating that it will be published by Playsaurus, the same team that helped Orteil release the Steam version.
"Cookie Clicker is a game about making an absurd amount of cookies," reads the game's description on both digital stores. "To help you in this endeavor, you will recruit a wide variety of helpful cookie makers, like friendly Grandmas, Farms, Factories, and otherworldly Portals. Cookie Clicker was originally released in 2013, but has been very actively developed since then. If you played it before, try it again to see all the new features!"
According to the store listings, Cookie Clicker is scheduled to launch on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch on May 22, 2025.
As unexpected and out-of-the-blue as the news may seem at first, in hindsight, the title's expansion to other platforms should come as no surprise, given the financial and reputational success of Cookie Clicker’s Steam edition.
Though it's not free to play like its web-based counterpart, the game holds an Overwhelmingly Positive 96% user rating and hit an impressive 67,000 concurrent players at launch, still peaking at 11–12K daily. Those numbers outperform even some AAA games released in 2025, with, for example, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Shadows now seeing only around 5,000 concurrent users at most.
See, GeoGuessr, this is how you expand from browser to other platforms, not with predatory monetization models hidden behind the "Free to Play" tag.
