"We were blown away by how much our new partners at Story Kitchen understood about DREDGE & excited about how they'll weave that understanding into a live-action adaptation."
Just as the critically acclaimed eerie fishing adventure DREDGE celebrated its one-year anniversary, Black Salt Games and Story Kitchen have announced that they will adapt the game into a live-action movie.
In DREDGE, players are invited to take the role of a fisherman and his boat, sell their catch to learn more about each area's troubled past from the locals and explore a mysterious archipelago to discover why some things are best left forgotten. The game was initially released in March 2023 and sold over one million copies by October, followed by the release of The Pale Reach DLC in November with the second expansion The Iron Rig scheduled to release this year.

In a joint statement, Black Salt Games' Nadia Thorne, Joel Mason, Alex Ritchie, and Michael Bastiaens have announced DREDGE will receive a live-action movie adaptation produced by Story Kitchen:
"We are excited to partner with such an experienced studio team to bring the world we created to live action and ignite the imagination of audiences across the globe."
Reportedly, the project's logline reads "Think The Sixth Sense on the water. A grounded atmospheric cosmic horror blend of HP Lovecraft and Ernest Hemingway", referencing the famous 1999 M. Night Shyamalan thriller movie starring Bruce Willis.
Story Kitchen is a media company launched in 2022 by Sonic The Hedgehog film producer Dmitri M. Johnson and specializes in the adaptation of video games and other 'non-traditional' IPs into movies and TV series. Just last year Story Kitchen partnered with Monomi Park to work on the Slime Rancher movie adaptation.
