Counter-Strike 2 Might Be Launched Next Week

"What are you doing next Wednesday?"

It appears that Valve's long-awaited Counter-Strike 2, an enhanced iteration of the legendary first-person shooter powered by the Source 2 engine, has finally got a release date, depending on how you decide to interpret a rather enigmatic tweet shared by the developers this Wednesday.

Shared via the official Counter-Strike page, the post in question read, "What are you doing next Wednesday?", hinting at the possibility that the highly-anticipated FPS might be launched the following Wednesday, September 27, 2023. While it wasn't outright stated by Valve that the game would be shipped on this date, the mysterious six-word tweet was quickly interpreted by the community as the official announcement of CS2's release date.

In case you missed it, Counter-Strike 2 was first unveiled back in March, with Valve describing the new version of the shooter as "the largest technical leap forward in Counter-Strike's history". Upon the announcement, the devs promised that CS2 would introduce a slew of new features and improvements, including overhauled and visually-improved maps, upgraded smoke grenades, sub-tick update architecture, new high-res VFX, and more.

Initially, Valve also planned to ship the game sometime in Summer 2023, a deadline that they seem to have missed if the community's interpretation of the "Wednesday" tweet is correct. Some players even expected the game to be released on a specific day, August 24, speculating that the time of 8:24 displayed on the Overpass map's clocks was a subtle hint from Valve, a theory that was proven wrong with time.
