CozyBlanket Devs' Upcoming Asset Creation App Has Normal Map Sculpting

The team behind CozyBlanket has made a series of exciting updates to their new mobile asset creation app Uniform including GPU acceleration, global color palette support, and extensive game asset workflow features.

Last year, Sparseal, the developer of the iOS-based retopology app CozyBlanket, announced a new mobile 3D software equipped with a robust toolset designed to handle the entire asset creation process.

Currently, the software's release date and price remain unknown, but the developers continue to share their progress on the app and recently made a series of incredible updates.

A while ago, it became public that Uniform will be using Cycles, a powerful Blender's physically-based rendering engine.

Now, Sparseal announced that Uniform is going to be fully GPU accelerated, allowing users to work on large projects with high-poly meshes with any input lag. What's more, Uniform's GPU backend enables procedural Displacement layers for sculpting, allowing the addition of non-destructive high-frequency details and painting their area of influence.

Sparseal has also showcased the full low-poly asset workflow from modeling to lighting, with the direct export to a game engine function.

Sculpting normal maps straight onto the model without baking looks extremely promising in particular:

Furthermore, Uniform supports a global color palette that can be referenced in fill layers, meaning that the color palette can be edited from a single place and all the data will update accordingly, making it perfect for easily creating asset variations.

Originally, Uniform was set to launch exclusively on iPad, but with the rising demand for the PC port from other developers who feel like this might be a game-changing tool in their workflows, the app may come to other platforms as well.

As for now, it seems that the Uniform iPad Private Beta is still open to register on the official Discord server if you're interested in contributing to the new Uniform features, workflows, and roadmap. Sparseal notes, that beta candidates will be selected based on how the available hardware and portfolio match the technical targets for Uniform's release.

We highly encourage you to follow Sparseal on X/Twitter in order not to miss any future updates on Uniform.

In the meantime, check out the team's other project CozyBlanket, which recently received a Papercraft Mode update, allowing the creation of physical prototypes based on high-poly 3D models:

Lame company, complete disregard for customers and superiority complex, their UI/UX is a testimony of their self centered aproach at software design
