Crafting a Teaser to Welcome Back Clash Royale's 2v2 Mode

DAMN! Visdev shared their working process on a teaser celebrating the return of Clash Royale’s 2v2 mode, blending Western aesthetics with the game’s signature charm.

DAMN! Visdev is a visual development studio with over 25 years of combined experience in the high-end CG animation industry. The team, composed of artists who have worked at studios like Disney, Netflix Animation, and Sony Pictures Animation, specializes in creating stunning visuals for films, series, and advertising. Leveraging their expertise, DAMN! offers services that include concept art, visual storytelling, and creative problem-solving, ensuring the highest quality for every project.

For the teaser celebrating the return of Clash Royale’s 2v2 mode, the team blended Western aesthetics with the game’s signature charm. In just three weeks, the studio turned the concept into a cinematic teaser designed to shine on every platform.

The developers shared that they studied iconic Western visuals, like anamorphic lenses, shallow depth of field, and film grain, but adapted them to fit Clash Royale’s vibrant and clean style.

Using Houdini, the team created custom cloth simulations to bring the Kings’ capes to life, while Adobe Substance 3D Painter helped them enhance textures and materials for a richer, more dynamic look.

To ensure the teaser worked seamlessly across 16:9, 1:1, and 9:16 formats, they built a custom camera rig that allowed them to preview all versions simultaneously. Maya was their go-to for animation and scene assembly, while Arnold Renderer handled lighting and volumetrics, adding cinematic depth. Finally, Nuke tied everything together in compositing, with lens effects and film emulation for that extra touch of realism.

Behind the scenes, the team developed a custom colorspace transform to refine highlights, contrast, and shadows, pushing the visuals beyond standard ACES or sRGB. The result was a teaser packed with humor, Western flair, and Clash Royale’s playful energy, delivered in record time.
