Crash Bandicoot 5 Has Reportedly Been Canceled

Crash 5 "that never was" will "break hearts" one day.

Toys for Bob

Sad news for everyone who looked forward to Crash Bandicoot 5: the game has been canceled according to Nicholas Kole, a designer and illustrator who has worked on the previous game in the series.

On X/Twitter, he announced that one of the games he was involved in, Project Dragon, had been shut down after 3 years of development. Fans of Spyro almost had a heart attack, but Kole clarified that it was actually a new IP. However, another fandom received a grim announcement instead: "Some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts."

Crash Bandicoot 5 was presumably made by Toys for Bob, while Project Dragon had another developer. Toys for Bob announced its independence several months ago, leaving Activision Blizzard after it was bought by Microsoft.

Kole didn't say much about Crash 5, but you can see art from Project Dragon on his X/Twitter. It was supposed to be a cozy multiplayer sandbox survival crafting RPG, "a buildable world made of blocks inspired by Minecraft, filled with fantasy characters and quests inspired by Breath of the Wild."

We will likely see other information about it in the coming days now that the embargo has been lifted.
