Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montréal Now Officially Own Tomb Raider and Deus Ex

Both studios have left Square Enix and joined Embracer Group.

Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montréal announced they now officially own the rights to some of their famous franchises and other games they created. Crystal Dynamics takes control of Tomb Raider and Legacy of Kain, while Eidos-Montréal is the owner of Deus Ex and Thief.

"We are excited to inform you that Crystal Dynamics has taken control of several game franchises – including TOMB RAIDER and Legacy of Kain – from the games’ previous owner, Square Enix Limited.

"As a result of this change, Crystal Dynamics (or its affiliate) is now the owner of these games and the controller of the gameplay and personal data related to them."

Both studios left Square Enix to join Embracer Group in late August. Embracer Group announced its plans to acquire several studios belonging to Square Enix back in May.

Earlier, Crystal Dynamics said that the next Tomb Raider game will be powered by Unreal Engine 5.
