Dead by Daylight Dev Behaviour Lays Off Nearly a Hundred Staff

This is part of their "strategic changes for future growth."

Dead by Daylight

Behaviour Interactive, the developer behind the popular survival horror franchise Dead by Daylight, has announced a new round of layoffs, set to affect nearly 100 staff members.

In the announcement, they beat around the bush by first reflecting on the company's growth. Based in Montreal, Behaviour is Canada’s largest independent game developer and publisher, with over 30 years of business in the gaming industry. The company has doubled in size over the past five years, growing from 575 to 1,300 employees. However, they also acknowledge the increasing competition within the gaming industry due to its rising popularity.

"Within this challenging context, Behaviour has renewed its focus on its historical strengths. These include the Company’s leading position in horror gaming, its production expertise, and its thirty-year history of providing exceptional service to its development partners. These strengths have inspired clear ambitions for the Company’s future – lead in horror, lead in service, and explore the possibilities of location-based entertainment."

In pursuit of this vision, the statement explains:

"Behaviour will implement multiple strategic changes to its corporate structure, improving the distinction between its product, production, business development, and marketing resources. As a result of these changes, the Company will reduce its team by up to 95 employees, 70 of whom are based in Montreal."

The company assures that these changes will not affect its service business or the development of Dead by Daylight.

Notably, this marks the company's second round of layoffs this year — back in January, they laid off 45 people who were also working in the Montreal office.
