Death Stranding Sold 5M Copies on PS4 and PC

The team expects the game to sell even more with the launch of the Director's Cut on PlayStation 5 in September.

Death Stranding managed to sell five million copies worldwide on PS4 and PC, Kojima Productions revealed. Head of publishing Jay Boor told GamesIndustry.biz that the game's results were good and now they expect even more with the release of the Director's Cut on PlayStation 5 in September.
"With Death Stranding being the first title developed out of Kojima Productions, from a sales perspective, it has performed quite well," Boor said. "As of March 2021, Death Stranding has sold through over five million units worldwide on PlayStation 4 and PC."

The upcoming Director's Cut will feature visual improvements, new features, weapons, and modes. The team also promises to improve the social strand feature.

"Hideo Kojima once said in an interview: "I'm very prone to loneliness. I think there are similar people around the world - especially gamers. When they're alone playing video games in their living room, they don't feel like they fit into society or their community," Jay Boor continued. So when people play this game they realize people like them exist all over the world. Knowing that even though I'm lonely, there are other people like me - and that makes you feel at ease. That's what I want people to feel when they play this game."

The main element of the game that makes it unique is the social strand system which lets players communicate with others using a number of in-game actions. The Director's Cut will add more features to the system and but the team is not ready to share the detail yet.
