Demo of Mod That Remakes Fallout 1 in Fallout 4's Engine Is Almost Out

Be sure to check Fallout: Vault 13 out.

Do you miss the original Fallout but not its graphics? What if you could play the good old game in Fallout 4's engine? Well, you will be able to very soon with Fallout: Vault 13's demo coming on August 8 at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT.

Vault 13 is a community remake of Fallout 1 that allows you to enjoy familiar locations in a new(er) setting.

The team behind the mod partnered with the creators of Fallout 4: Project Arroyo, a remake of Fallout 2 in Fallout 4's engine, so chances are we'll get the full version of both reimaginings sooner than expected.

"This collaboration represents our shared commitment to remaking the classic Fallout games within Fallout 4’s engine, so that new fans can experience the story and world of the first 2 Fallout games," said the Vault 13 team.

Consisting of "dedicated volunteers," it works hard to bring the game to fans and doesn't have much time to share frequent updates. You can keep track of the development via its Discord and X/Twitter account.

The project started when its founder, culinwino, found a video featuring the Fallout 1 skill system in Fallout 4, created by modder Kreb.

"We would use my world map system and his skill system. Even though Kreb isn’t active on the project anymore, Fallout: Vault 13 would not have been possible without the skill system he created, which we still use to this day."

The mod will be voiced by actors, and its developers don't intend to use voice-generation AIs "due to the ethical and copyright considerations."

If you'd like to know more about the project, check out this interview with No Mutants Allowed, where you can also find some funny stories about the production.

"For a few weeks, we had a phantom car that would follow you around the map any time you tried to walk away from it. There was also the… phallic shaped rock someone snuck into a build one time."

If you're ready for another Fallout game, you can already play Fallout: London, a DLC-sized mod for Fallout 4.
