Were they really surprised?
Irdeto
DRM system Denuvo has a certain (negative) reputation among players, and when its creator Irdeto announced its Discord server on October 15, everyone knew what would happen.
"Perhaps, it may seem like we've gone quiet for a while now, seemingly ignoring all your feedback and concerns, peacefully rolling out e-book promotions and, canonically, ruining all the games in the world," its message on X/Twitter said. "Starting today and for the following 2 months, we would like nothing more than to give you a platform to express your queries and receive the answers you have deserved all along. Please, welcome to our Discord server."
So Irdeto must have guessed what people who think Denuvo "ruins all the games in the world" by damaging their performance (a fact the company denies) would do but still decided to give them the right to talk on the server. That's brave. Unfortunately, just 2 days later, this privilege had to be taken away.
"As you can imagine, the amount of inappropriate content has made moderation quite challenging for our small team, who are doing this alongside our regular day-to-day work. For that reason, we’ve decided to make some changes to the server, which we’ll be implementing over the next few days. Stay tuned!"
So no, you can't post messages freely on Denuvo's Discord server now. As PC Gamer reports, the server has been brought back to life, but you'll be stuck in the Welcome section until you prove you can be trusted. Do I think it will save Denuvo from criticism and humiliating memes? Absolutely not. But perhaps this will teach the developers something.
