Dev Shares Detailed Story About How His Game Reached 100K Sales on Steam

The creator of the cozy sim Furnish Master shared an article with a comprehensive analysis and useful resources.

Alex Blintsov

Game Developer Alex Blintsov, also known as AlFlakky, shared how his game, a cozy sandbox where you create interiors, titled Furnish Master, reached the mark of 100,000 sales on Steam. The developer published a comprehensive article, in which he provided sales data, wishlists, traffic sources, information about budgets and ads, along with a story about how the game was promoted.

Furnish Master was released last February, and the development time before the release took the creator two years of work in his spare time. The initial idea for the UE5-powered furnishing sim was a cleaning simulator, which later evolved into a full-fledged sandbox game about room decoration. The creator published the game prototypes on Reddit and, based on metrics and the active feedback on the posts, decided to develop the idea further and craft a full game. In the article, he recalled the creation of the Steam page, using ads, releasing the demo version, and the further steps of leading the game to publishing.

Alex Blintsov also tracked the wishlist count, marking the increase after the game's coverages, promoting the title on social media, and the early access release. Apart from this, the creator shared a useful resource to analyze the Steam reviews, which can help outline the main points that players mention.

The dev also analyzed possible reasons for refunds and shared that the majority of them were due to technical issues, namely struggles with UX/UI, camera controls, and the object placement system, as well as underperformance on low-end devices.
