devcom Developer Conference 2022 has revealed the program which includes over 110 sessions, talks, and panels on a total of eight stages. More than 140 speakers will cover 13 topic fields.
#ddc2022 will take place as a 2-day conference program on August 22 and 23, 2022 as the first hybrid edition with sessions both online and onsite in Cologne.
The conference will be kicked off on Monday by Joe Brammer, Co-founder, and CEO of Bulkhead. In his opening keynote The Truth about the 4 Day Work Week, the industry expert will talk about the challenge of implementing a 4-day work week at a studio of around 100 employees, and what are the actual advantages and disadvantages. The second conference day opens with the talk Deathloop’s User Research – User Experience Death Loop by Dana Nightingale, Campaign Director at Arkane Lyon. She will describe the influence of user surveys on the first few hours of gameplay in Deathloop, and how further research has gradually changed the whole game.
The event will host an outstanding panel entitled Against all Odds - Game Dev without Borders, in which the guests will share personal stories of how they left their home countries due to crises, how they got help from friends inside and outside the games industry, and what bureaucratic challenges they faced. The panel will be joined by Tim Schroeder, Layal El Fakih, Yasaman Farazan, Lee Hammoud, Fawzi Mesmar, Elena Lobova, Daria Vlasova, Narges Farazan.
The #ddc2022 line-up will also feature a talk by Anne Gibeault of Phoenix Labs. From a Creative Director’s perspective, she will talk about what it means to start over from scratch: Challenge accepted: Building everything at once: New IP, New team, New studio, new processes. The panel featuring Michelle Reade, Jerry Snook, Chris Pierson, Marcy Brown, and Ryan Penk of Standing Stone Games will focus on the joys & challenges of bringing middle-earth to life in a persistent world while making the online role play game The Lord of the Rings: Online.
In addition to lectures and panel discussions, there will again be an extensive program of side events this year. At the exhibition area, independent game developers present themselves at the NRW Indie Expo, as well as studios from a wide variety of countries at the Country Pavilion Showcase. The devcom Indie Award honors the small and independent studios for their achievements on Tuesday at 5:30 PM in the Europasaal. The devcom Sunset Mixer Party (Monday) and the devcom Indie Developer Night (Tuesday) bring both conference days to a close and also offer relaxed networking opportunities
