It was going to be "legit incredible".
Former Free Radical Design developer Michael Barclay shed some light on the canceled Star Wars: Battlefront 3 saying it got shelved "2 yards from the finish line" and was going to be "legit incredible".
"Gamers don’t know what they were robbed of," Barclay said on Twitter replying to the thread about opportunities that "got away".
Star Wars: Battlefront 3 had been in development by Free Radical Design since 2006 until it got canned in 2008. Later, the studio's co-founder Steve Ellis, similar to Barclay, claimed that the game was "99% done" (via IGN). This resulted in a former LucasArts employee harshly contradicting the statement. "This 99 percent complete stuff is just bullsh*t," they told GameSpot. "A generous estimate would be 75 percent of a mediocre game." This led to Ellis writing a lengthy message about the situation, which you can find here.
Eventually, Battlefront 2 was the last installment in the series, with the 2017 game developed by EA DICE.
