Developer Who Cracked Denuvo in Hogwarts Legacy Creates Tool That Will Help Do So in Other Games

Maurice Heumann presents Windows User Space Emulator.

Irdeto

Denuvo is known to nearly every gamer, and not positively. The DRM gets accused of slowing down systems regularly, and the news of it appearing in upcoming titles always gets a lot of rage. But brighter times might be on the horizon with the Windows User Space Emulator created by Maurice Heumann, a DRM developer who has cracked the Denuvo protection on Hogwarts Legacy before.

The Windows process emulator "operates at syscall level, providing full control over process execution through comprehensive hooking capabilities." Basically, it analyzes processes, including those started by Denuvo, and can help developers remove them. Emphasis on "help" – this is not the ultimate cracking tool that will "unlock" every game to piracy. "It helps understanding and analyzing behaviour of Windows apps in general. It can be used for good and bad."

If you wonder what Denuvo creators have to say about it, Heumann shared that they are aware of his efforts:

If you think the app can be useful to you, here are its key features:

  • Syscall-Level Emulation

Instead of reimplementing Windows APIs, the emulator operates at the syscall level, allowing it to leverage existing system DLLs

  • Advanced Memory Management

Supports Windows-specific memory types, including reserved, committed, built on top of Unicorn's memory management

  • Complete PE Loading

Handles executable and DLL loading with proper memory mapping, relocations, and TLS

  • Exception Handling

Implements Windows structured exception handling (SEH) with proper exception dispatcher and unwinding support

  • Threading Support

Provides a scheduled (round-robin) threading model

  • State Management

Supports both full-state serialization

  • Debugging Interface

Implements GDB serial protocol for integration with common debugging tools (IDA Pro, GDB, LLDB, VS Code)

Good. Denuvo as a company needs to be burned to the ground and never rebuilt. Absolute dumpster fire software.
