Along with unveiling their public roadmap for 2025, which highlighted ambitious plans for EmberGen and LiquiGen, JangaFX also teased IlluGen, a new addition to the product lineup. Little has been disclosed about IlluGen, other than it being some procedural material creation tool, with its features still unknown.
It looks like JangaFX's CEO Nicholas Seavert just casually shared the first look at IlluGen, showcasing an example of how it can be used along with EmberGen to create Diablo's health and mana orbs. According to him, IlluGen is designed for real-time VFX Artists, featuring FX meshes, textures, masks, VATs, noises, and normal maps.
In the short demo above, we can see a 2D viewport displaying a faux 3D mana and health effect. The mana effect here uses a simulation imported from EmberGen, while the rest is procedurally generated. The health effect, on the other hand, is entirely created within IlluGen's Node Graph. IlluGen lets you preview how your textures will interact with each other before exporting them to your preferred engine.
"Besides EmberGen, this tool has been a dream of mine for many years, and it's coming out this summer. We hope to support both hand-drawn workflows and procedural workflows, merging them into one cohesive package", commented Nicholas.
